On a sunny day in June 2014 composer Graham Keitch, his wife Philippa, producer Adrian Peacock and recording engineer Will Brown, met us (Concanenda) at the twin churches of Swaffam Prior just outside Cambridge to record a 3-track EP of Keitch’s music. The subject matter of this EP, ‘In Memoriam’ is a reflection on finding peace both in death itself and in remembering those we have lost.
This is not only the project I am most proud of in Concanenda’s repertory thus far but also one that speaks so strongly to what the ensemble is all about. Concanenda was incepted purely out of the founding members passion, love and excitement for choral music. November 2012, Bridgemas was upon us and with drink in hand, giddy choral christmas cheer on our lips and festive jumpers adorned, Concanenda was born.
It’s important to me that the members involved in each project are not only stimulated and inspired by the subject of the projects but also enjoy themselves and the process as we go along.
I will never forget the day we recorded ‘In Memoriam’, those who were part of it and what came from that day. This piece and this specific recording hold heavy meaning for me and so in collaboration with filmmaker Alex Bull and composer Graham Keitch, I am extremely proud of the video we have made together. After almost a year of conversations, preparation, filming, editing and finalising, this music video is a true composite of each of our own emotion, meaning and narrative.

Text: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori. mors et fugacem persequitur virum nec parcit in bellis iuventae poplitibus ti mi dove tergo.
Translation: It's sweet and fitting to die for one's country. Yet death chases after the soldier who runs, and it won't spare the cowardly back or the limbs, of peace-loving young men.
